There was also a fairly well-accredited rumor that Miles was about to work with Hendrix on a project. I`m not sure this would have forwarded the cause of jazz (not being much of a "fusion" fan),but it certainly would have been more interesting than the flaccid,faux-funk Miles ended up spewing for most of the rest of his career.
As for JW, I`ve never heard or read him confess any real liking or affinity for jazz and I don`t hear any such influence in his music.
Naturally, with the 40th(!) anniversary of his death, the Industry Machine is set to crankout more un-released Hendrix tracks, re-issues and (of course!) a video game. Check out today`s (Feb. 28) New York Times for the sorry details.
