Fan Concert Review:
Jimmy Webb, San Diego CA, February 9, 2008
Not much to say except one hell of a show. The best I've seen. Thanks so much. Bring him back soon.
Mesmerizing. Thank you, Carey
Let me be the first of what I hope are many people to say thank you for one of the best nights of music I've ever experienced in 30+ years of concert going. All I knew was that he wrote all these classic songs that are still played over and over today. His version of Galveston was amazing and brought me to tears. All these songs were the songs that I remember from when I was a young kid and to think that this man wrote them all is truly mind blowing. I can't thank you enough for bringing someone with this level of musical history and songwriting to the little ol' church in North Park. If you ever get him back, please let me know. I'll buy the first tickets! With much thanks and gratitude
Make that five raves. It was WONDERFUL!
Congrats on another Full House! You and your "Living Legends"....I'm really glad I was there...Anyways, even tho' I've never been really into most of Webb's tunes, whenever YOU put on a musical history lesson for us, (ala Renbourn, or Kooper, or Muldaur), I need to Thank You, and always want to be there. how good he was with the LONG line of fans after the show....his first set went over an hour I think, and he looked pretty bushed. that was a great show well done, (with a great audience, too)! Thanks, one more time.
I had heard of Jimmy Webb the songwriter many times over the years, and of course we are all familiar with many of his songs performed by others. Never having heard him as a performer I was cautiously optimistic. Tonight, Jimmy far exceeded all expectations, probably being my favorite of about 20 AMSD concerts attended. Jimmy's presence, voice, stories, exceptional piano playing, and song selection were terrific. As Jimmy stated, the sound volume and mix was perfect and the grand piano (first time we've seen here) was really a nice addition. Jimmy added such emotion to his delivery and accordingly we didn't just hear the music, we felt it.
To repeat what you've said many times:
1.) Your venue allows us to see many performers that we would never otherwise see (and accordingly are very grateful).
2.) If you ever get another chance to see them, do so (and bring your friends). Jimmy certainly falls in this category.
Thanks for the job you are doing.
One of the most enjoyable evenings of musical bliss that i can remember first time we did the dinner thing [Dinner Package] and it couldn't have been better. you had a genius on stage and we had the best seats/pew in the place.† sheer magic. you certainly know how to put on a show. Tthere is a special spot in whatever heaven you believe in for you my friend.
Carey, he is going to be in NY next week and Iíve eMailed several friends of mine about it. This was probably the best concert that Iíve ever attended ..anywhere.
Fabulous show last night! Jimmy was great. Wonderful stories that didn't sound over-told or rehearsed. Casual, funny glimpses behind the scenes of not only his, but many other careers that we had previously seen only from the audience.
And the aforementioned piano! What a player he is. His "sound" compliment to you was well-deserved -- we could hear every note and every word in perfect balance and volume.
Thank you for making it possible for us to see a living legend.
Damn, that concert last night was great. One of my favorite lines from MacArthur Park has been ìafter all the loves of my life, youíll still be the oneî
Thank you a thousand times for bringing Jimmy Webb to your venue! I put the show into my short list of one the best I've seen..I live in Los Angeles, and this was the first time I've seen Jimmy, it was more than worth the drive down. The venue and sound were excellent..well done! Mr Webb was simply amazing. I'm 43 so many of the great songs were written when I was young, but his songs I realize were a big part of my life. He is truly a legend, the world does not have songwriters like Jimmy any longer, I guess because the 70's were a much more carefree time, and musicians could take chances.
Thank You and Jimmy Webb again for a fantastic evening!
Thanks again for the great seats, my wife and I both enjoyed the evening. If Jimmy comes back to AMSD, count us and the friends we'll tell about the show in!. Thanks again
